Turn the key to position II and press the brake pedal a few times. As you press the brake pedal, the solenoid inside the shifter releases the shifter from Park. Listen carefully for a click sound by the shifter module. You may be able to hear the solenoid unlock. If you can hear the click, that is a good sign.
I believe there are two different issues here, each of which requires the push of a button. The button to the left controls the ECU, (Electronic (or Engine) Control Unit) and has, at least on my 2015 GLA250, three positions, E, S, and M. M (manual) is semi useless, so there are basically 2 modes you can be in, E, where you start in 2nd, or S
I have a C350 3.5 and I have started to notice that while I'm driving the Sport Mode comes on by itself from Economy mode. The light on the Sport switch illuminates and the S symbol on the dash comes on. The switch won't let me turn it off again until I stop the car, switch the engine off and restart.
